MotoGP Germany J2, Luca Marini (Honda Q18/S15): “Finally, we see progress!”

It goes unnoticed, but Luca Marini is having his best weekend as an official Honda rider in Germany. Author of a qualifying that was good for his standards, an 18th place congratulated by his staff, he was able to hang on to a good wagon to hold the two Fabios during the Sprint, and thus climb to 15th place ahead of Augusto Fernandez and Johann Zarco. He still hasn’t scored a single point in 2024, but a similar performance tomorrow could unlock his counter.

Always positive, Luca Marini was even more so on the evening of his performance. « It was our best race so farI really enjoyed the whole sprint. I spent most of my time behind Fabio Quartararo and Diggia and I felt I could stay there. It was really motivating to have this speed and it confirms the way we have to work » he declared last night.

His resilience commands respect. For a driver who has gone from the top 5 to the bottom of the standings, he has never let his distress show in his many statements. However, this result has been expected for a while. « This is exactly what we needed after the difficult weekend in Assen.. I am adapting much more to the bike and we can see progress.” he added, full of enthusiasm.

It remains to be confirmed in Grand Prix, and to take advantage of an exemplary regularity. Luca Marini has still not abandoned a Sunday race, and must be careful of the excess of confidence which can prove dangerous on a machine as tortuous as the Honda RC213V. « Of course, there is still a lot of work to do, but it is important to enjoy these moments and do what we can tomorrow.. »
he concluded.
