“They gave me an extra boost…”

Victor Campenaerts had already spotted the route of this 7th stage just before the start of the Tour de France and had noticed that it was a course that really suited him. Which the Belgian confirmed upon arrival by having “I had a lot of fun. I really appreciate the trust the team has put in me,” he said. “The goal for me was to get a top 10 today, I know I can’t win against the names ahead of me.” Indeed, behind Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step), Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), Primoz Roglic (Red Bull – BORA-hansgrohe) et Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike), Victor Campenaerts could hardly have done better, which makes his performance all the more enjoyable.

“It was the first time I went full throttle on my beautiful time trial bike. It was great.” Father of a little boy just before the start of the Big loop, Campenaerts had “Really looking forward to this day. My girlfriend Nel and my newborn son were there,” he explained. “They gave me that extra boost.”concluded the runner of the Lotto Dstny all smiles.
