In 2021-22, Anderlecht also had a positive net result but it was largely due to the cancellation of certain debts by Marc Coucke. It is therefore difficult to speak of a financial recovery due to the good management of the club. Whether in 2016-17 or 2023-24, it is the daily work that made the difference in being in the green. The latest result is all the more impressive as, unlike 2016-17, he was unable to count on a title and a great campaign in the Europa League. Anderlecht wasn’t even European last year.
How to explain the financial success of the Brussels club?
Turnover increased by 4.5%. Thanks to exceptional business results. We are thinking in particular of the high occupancy rate of the stadium, estimated at 98% throughout the season. The move of Bart Verbruggen to the ranks of Brighton in the summer of 2023 for 20 million also weighed in the balance. The bonuses linked to the transfer of Jérémy Doku from Rennes to Manchester City were also included in the calculations put forward by the RSCA.
Anderlecht reduced its payroll by 5.5 million.
The reduction in certain costs also enters the equation. Jesper Fredberg was instructed to keep the payroll low. It fell by 5.5 million euros. This is the biggest saving even if other actions have made it possible to limit certain operating costs that existed in the past. Last important amount to highlight: Anderlecht’s equity leaves the red zone. They are valued at just over five million euros.

In the club’s press release, Wouter Vandenhaute welcomes these results: “Getting the club back on track financially has not been an easy tasksaid the president. I am pleased that the efforts of shareholders over recent years, as well as the commitment and discipline of management, have resulted in these positive financial statements. I would like to thank all the members of the club. A solid financial foundation is essential to continue our path to the top in the years to come.”
And what will be the outcome of the current season?
It is still impossible to say. The departures of Brian Riemer and Jesper Fredberg will cost some money. Three elements, however, allow us to see the future in a positive way: the transfer of Zeno Debast which will only be taken into account in the next assessment, the current European campaign and the fairly light incoming summer transfer window.
