It is in 2025 and in Sandnes, in the south-west of Norway, that Gjert Ingebrigtsen will be tried, according to information from the Norwegian daily World Walk (VG). The most famous of his sons, Jakob, double Olympic champion in the 1,500 m (2021) and 5,000 m (2024), testified to several blows received over the years. It was this testimony that pushed the Norwegian justice system to extend the indictment for domestic violence.
Physical but also psychological violence
Gjert Ingebrigtsen had been accused of violence against Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s sister by the other brothers, but these accusations had been dropped by the police (limitation period, lack of evidence). Jakob Ingebrigtsen, interviewed by the police, described having suffered physical and psychological violence from his father Gjert for many years. He explains that he was hit several times in the head and kicked, with several other members attesting to his statements.
