Radja Nainggolan has not had a club since last summer and his adventure in Indonesia, his country of origin. While waiting to eventually play football again, he took up… futsal.
Radja Nainggolan recently stated that he had not yet given up on the idea of finding a club. The ex-Red Devil, however, regretted that no club had attempted it, and almost resigned himself: “It will be Belgium or nothing”, he declared (read here).
Nainggolan has not played since last July and his time in Indonesia, with Bhayangkara FC. He therefore finds the time long, and in the meantime, he has found a new challenge… in the gym. The former Roma and Inter Milan player has signed for Futsal Team Hassania Mechelen.
Hassania’s secretary, Fayçal El Lamzi, told the Nieuwsblad: “One of the players on our team is very friendly with Radja. He had already come to watch some of our matches. He had even given the kick-off of a match. We asked him to join us but we didn’t know if he would be interested in the offer.
It turned out yes, and so Nainggolan decided to take on one last (?) surprising challenge… in a club that doesn’t even play at the highest level in futsal. “We are currently playing in third national, but our ambition is to play in D2. Radja is very respected here, I don’t think he needs the money yet.”
Radja Nainggolan has already played one match, losing 3-6 against ZVK Zsiden-Dorp. “He was one of the best on the pitch, but obviously it’s a very different sport from football. I think he understood that. In any case, he kept his winning mentality,” concludes El Lamzi.
