The Argentine Football Association (AFA) took an important step in its international expansion plan by inaugurating its first academy in Africa this week in Tangier, Morocco.
Developed in partnership with the Ajax Tangier Sports Club, this location becomes the seventh opening for the AFA in 2024, after those in Barcelona, Madrid, Miami (two sites), Medellín and Porto Alegre. She concentrates “on the application of the Argentinian methodology, a multidisciplinary model designed to train young players by leveraging their natural talent and drawing on the rich Moroccan football culture.”
This inauguration is part of the AFA International program intended to promote the values of Argentine football throughout the world, while combining sporting and commercial objectives. According to Gustavo Grossi, sports director of AFA International, this project intends “identify and develop local talent through a methodology that combines tradition and innovation, while training individuals committed to the values of sport.” The AFA methodology places particular emphasis on technical development but also on values such as competitiveness, effort and sense of teamwork, thus contributing to the personal and sporting development of young players.
Morocco, chosen to host this academy, reflects the AFA’s desire to establish itself in a region where football is experiencing notable growth and is full of promising young talents. Furthermore, this collaboration with the Ajax Tangier Sports Club strengthens the links between the football cultures of the two countries while offering young Moroccans access to elite training that meets international standards.
The opening ceremony, marked by the presence of Javier Saviola, former emblematic player of the Argentine selection, underlined the ambition of the AFA to remain a world reference in the field of football training.
