Dedryck Boyata told his story for the first time on Thursday on Sporza. FC Brugge reacted to the harsh comments made by its player.

Dedryck Boyata has not played a match with Club Brugge since February. The defender did not leave this summer, even though he knew he would no longer be in the Blauw & Zwart plans. He told his side of the story about Sporza.

“In August, the Club made it clear to me that I had to leave. I knew it would be difficult to find a new club because I had played very little,” he begins on Sporza. “During the first offer, the Club offered to terminate my contract in exchange for 20% compensation. I refused this offer because I wanted to stay in Belgium.”

“I didn’t want to go abroad again. Being close to my family was actually the reason I came back. My son had just returned to school, and I didn’t want to take them abroad him and my wife again,” Boyata explains.

But the Club would have changed its proposal, because they really wanted to see him leave. His salary is indeed very high. “Weeks passed and it was only on September 12 – the transfer market in Belgium had already closed – that we had a new agreement on the termination of the contract. The Club then offered to compensate me from 55 to 60%. An offer refused, again.

Club Brugge has since become aware of the interview and in turn reacted on Sporza. “The Club has been very clear regarding Dedryck’s situation this summer: there is no future at the Club, we want to find a solution together and with the aim of finding a new club, we have left him to train all summer with the first team and even playing friendly matches.”

“When no club came, we offered him 2/3 of his annual salary to be a free agent. Dedryck refused and since then he has been training 5 days a week with a mix of individual training in conditions professional and collective training with Club NXT During this time, his contract is respected as for any employee”, concludes FC Bruges.
