Dedryck Boyata has never been able to establish himself as an indisputable starter at Club Brugge. He said everything he thought about it, but also wants to apologize.
Dedryck Boyata has long kept silent about his situation at FC Bruges. The centre-back has been forgotten for some time, but has now told his story to Sporza. He notably severely attacked his club for the situation (read here).
Boyata went through a lot of difficult times at Club Brugge, due to injuries, but also the fact that there were a lot of coaching changes. Carl Hoefkens believed in him, but the ex-Red Devil was not able to give him back this confidence.
“Under Carl Hoefkens – he wanted to make me a starter – I had two injuries at crucial moments. I feel guilty for not being able to thank him for his confidence in me. Even though I already felt that the management wanted put me aside,” he told Sporza.
“During the period under Scott Parker I was recovering from a knee injury and then Rik De Mil came in. In his first game against Standard I thought I was going to play, but he chose Jorne Spileers – I understand absolutely, he’s a great talent – and I found myself in the stands”, recalls Dedryck Boyata.
De Mil ruled that the former Celtic Glasgow player was not fit to play. “According to him, I was not mentally prepared to play. However, I had worked very hard to get a few minutes of playing time,” he concluded bitterly.
