Play badminton with your future employer? This is the bet of the original job dating which was organized in Saint Marcellin, in Isère, on Thursday November 28. Organized jointly by France Travail, the Department of Isère and the badminton league, the objective of the “From stadium to employment” operation is to break the codes of traditional interviews and discover the qualities of candidates through team games.

For two hours, the teams competed in different workshops in the municipal gymnasium. Behind each participant, bosses, recruiters, and job seekers, all anonymous.

Badistas for a day play as a team in agility, cooperation and relay events. “Come on, come on!“, says Mathilde, a job seeker in tourism, to one of her teammates. “It’s a speed course with a precision test and I think we’re pretty good“, she says.

What I like most is the mutual help between teams and between people who don’t know each other. Then, what’s more, they are not on the same side if I may say so“, explains Morgan, a forklift driver job seeker, who is catching his breath after the obstacle course.

Forty-five job seekers were invited by their France Travail advisor to participate in these atypical interviews. Opposite, 18 companies responded.

We all know that in the world of work, we have to work in a team. It allows you to see how everyone is with each other.” testifies Mathilde Marmonier-Montoro, HR project manager at Monnet equipment consultancy. For good reason, sport is a way to reveal the human and relational qualities of each person.

Same story on the job seeker side: “DUsually when we go to a job dating event, we see the (managers of) companies but we don’t see them on the outside, we don’t know what they are like. There, we were able to laugh with them, encourage each other, we knew a little more about the person”says Fabrice, job seeker as an industrial cleaner.

While bonds are forged during the tests, it is often with astonishment that everyone discovers the identity of their teammates.

This is the surprise, I was convinced that in my team, there were no recruiters, when in fact there were! And I think they were as uncomfortable as we were this morning at badminton. It’s very nice“, jokes Mathilde.

What is positive is the remobilization of job seekers. They see themselves differently from the time they walk in the door at 9 a.m. to the time they leave, it’s very different“, explains Nathalie Murat-Mathian, director of France Travail Center Isère.

More than 60% of participating candidates find a job within six months following job dating according to France Travail data.
