Formula 1 | Ralf Schumacher advises Cadillac not to choose an American driver

The arrival of Cadillac in 2026 will constitute another option for certain drivers looking for a seat. Mick Schumacher might want to take advantage, and his uncle Ralf believes the team would be wrong to try to recruit an American driver.

“I’m pretty sure they will rely on American talent” Schumacher said. “On the other hand, to be honest, the level of IndyCar is not that of Formula 1. We have seen that in many tests. But that does not mean that there is a super talent that lies dormant and that no one has found yet.”

According to the German, his nephew would be much more reliable for the Cadillac team: “You have to start from scratch and it will be very difficult. That’s why you have to have someone who you know can do it and who you can count on.”

Ralf Schumacher thinks Cadillac will need time to adapt, but he expects the project to succeed: “Of course it will take time, but General Motors is a giant company and what they are doing will work in the end.”

“It’s important for Formula 1 because it’s another sign that a global player wants to get into Formula 1. Formula 1 is still on the growth path. It’s incredible.”

“We will then have 11 teams and I am happy about that, because there will be another team and, above all, two places for new and young drivers. We know how difficult it is with 20 cars. Now we have 10% more at our disposal.”
