Although Lionel Messi had already announced that he would not be taking part in the Olympic Games in addition to the Copa America, which he is currently playing, Argentina will still be competitive in Paris, with several very talented players in the squad selected by Javier Mascherano. The former Liverpool and Barça star will notably bring the future Lyon player Thiago Almada, who will discover France on this occasion. According to our information, the current Atlanta United player will join Botafogo very soon, before landing in Lyon in January 2025.

Almada will be accompanied by Albiceleste executives Julian Alvarez (Manchester City) and Nicolas Otamendi (Benfica), who will continue after the Copa, as will goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli (Ajax), Emiliano Martinez’s understudy. The latter will therefore not go to Paris, despite his stated desire to participate in the Olympic Games.

The majority of the other players, from the U23 team, play in Argentina, including the future Skyblue Claudio Echeverri (18 years old). Also noteworthy is the presence of Lucas Beltran, author of a great first season with Fiorentina, and Giuliano Simeone (Atlético Madrid), son of Diego and little brother of Giovanni, who gained playing time in the second half of the season. Argentina is aiming for a third Olympic football title, after those won in 2004 and 2008.
