Juan Martin Del Potro opens up about his daily pain

Repeated injuries have ruined his career and continue to make him suffer today. Juan Martin Del Potro (36 years old) spoke on Monday in a video about the health problems that poison his daily life: “I have had more than a hundred injections, infiltrations everywhere, in a hip, a leg, the back… These are daily sufferings. It’s been my life since my last match,” explains the Argentinian.

Operated six times on one knee, the native of Tandil recounts his last operations undergone in 2022, the day after his final meeting among the pros, against his compatriot Delbonis: “When I played the last match, people didn’t see him. They didn’t know, but the next day I took the plane to Switzerland and had another knee operation, the fifth. From that point on, I never made my operations public again. I stayed two months in a village near Basel for my rehabilitation, but it didn’t work. After two and a half months, I had my sixth operation.

Despite this, his daily life has become hell: “I get up and take six or seven pills, an anti-inflammatory, a painkiller and another for anxiety. Emotional pain surpasses physical pain. I felt strong at the time in the face of these obstacles, but I understood that I am not that strong…”

The former world No. 3 will play an exhibition match against Novak Djokovic on December 1, in Buenos Aires, to say goodbye to the world of tennis.
