Tuesday at 7 p.m., the 10th edition of the Vendée Globe, this solo, non-stop world tour, was still largely dominated by French sailors. The first six places were thus occupied by French sailors. Only Briton Sam Goodchild (7th) managed to break into the top 9 and break French hegemony.
The fleet was led by Charlie Dalin (Macif Santé Prévoyance), who was only 31 miles ahead of Thomas Ruyant (Vulnerable) and 71 miles ahead of Yoann Richomme (Paprec Arkéa). Followed: Sébastien Simon (Groupe Dubreuil), Nicolas Lunven (Holcim-PRB) and Jérémie Beyou (Charal).
After 16 days and 6 hours spent at sea, Geneva’s Justine Mettraux (Teamwork-Team Snef), who is experiencing her first Vendée Globe, was still in 12th place in the rankings. She was sailing at a speed of 19 nautical knots, was 404 miles from the leader and was following her course towards the Cape of Good Hope.
At the same score, the Genevan Alan Roura (Hublot) had lost a place to find himself 25th, 1319 miles from Dalin. He is neck and neck with Conrard Colman (MS Amlin), 1320 miles behind the leader.
As for Zurich’s Oliver Heer (Tut Gut), he remains 36th (at 1565 miles) among the 39 boats still in the race.
