Montreal Alouettes quarterback Davis Alexander has reportedly agreed to a three-year contract extension that would take him through the 2027 season, according to Justin Dunk of 3DownNation. Dave Naylor of TSN confirmed the news later in the evening.
The 26-year-old quarterback spent the last three seasons in the Alouettes organization.
He saw his role with the team grow in importance this season as a backup quarterback, especially with the injuries that plagued Cody Fajardo.
Alexander has completed 105 passes this year, boasting a pass completion rate of nearly 70%. He totaled 1,347 yards of aerial gains in addition to throwing six touchdown passes and being the victim of two interceptions.
On the ground, he carried the ball 24 times for gains of 166 yards, as well as three touchdowns.
The Alouettes finished the 2024 season ranked first overall with a 12-5-1 record, but the team suffered defeat in the Eastern Final against the Toronto Argonauts.
Alexander was going to become a free agent and at the end of the season, the possibility of keeping the services of the two quarterbacks seemed a very unlikely scenario due to salary demands. We will have to see what decision will be made now with Fajardo as the latter also has a contract with the team. He started the campaign strong before being hampered by injuries.
Fajardo was named MVP in the 2023 Gray Cup game when the Alouettes defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
