Always more lively every week, the transfer market rugby delivered its share of news and rumors at the end of November. While Bayonne has attracted a world champion in its nets and Montpellier could enlist a player from the French XV, Racing 92 would be on its side on the track of a Wallaby… The update on the latest transfer information.
Transfers: a world champion in Bayonne
The ambitions of Aviron Bayonnais are no longer exactly a surprise and its recruitment does not stand out. After having, for example, succeeded in seducing the English international Manu Tuilagi who arrived last summer, this is another nice move that the Basque leaders have achieved.
It is therefore the 2019 South African world champion Herschel Jantjies who will settle down in Bayonne in 2025. The scrum half has given his agreement to a contract covering two seasons.
Furthermore, Rowing also formalized the return of hooker Torsten Van Jaarsveld as Vincent Giudicelli's medical joker. The Namibian international had already spent 5 seasons at the club from 2018 to 2023.
Montpellier: a French international on the approach?
According to information from Midi Olympique, the MHR could carry out a great operation in the 2 sectore line where the Hérault club should lose internationals Bastien Chalureau and, potentially, Paul Willemse about whom there are big doubts following his repeated concussions.
To fill these departures, Montpellier would count on the arrival of Stade Français player Bastien Pesenti (6 caps) to whom the club would have offered a two-year contract.
Clermont: Sowakula towards extension
This is also information revealed by Rugby Ramawhich this time should delight Clermont supporters. While there remains a huge question about the future of Fritz Lee, another number 8 should soon sign for a new lease in Auvergne in the person of Pita-Gus Sowakula.
Arriving in 2023 at ASM, the former Chiefs player (2 caps for the All Blacks) would extend for two seasons.
Racing 92: a tracked Wallaby
While the Ile-de-France club had once hoped to bring in Irish international from Leinster Jack Conan, it seems that its leaders are changing their tune.
It is nevertheless another big profile which would now be studied by Racing 92, none other than the number 6 or 8 of the Wallabies Rob Valetini (51 selections), as revealed by RugbyPass. An obstacle to his arrival will, however, have to be taken into account since the Brumbies player is committed to Rugby Australia until 2027.
Imbroglio between Bayonne and Guillaume Rouet
Is it still part of the plans or not? The uncertainty is great, even for the person concerned who confided on the subject at France Blue Basque Country. After 22 years at Aviron Bayonnais, Guillaume Rouet has just learned of the recruitment of Herschel Jantjies to his position.
“I was neither summoned by the staff nor by management. I discovered the recruitment rumors like everyone else, in the press. […] Out of respect for the years I have given to the club, the minimum would be to take the temperature, to know what I intend to do,” he declared.
Bourgoin-Jallieu: Pascal Papé is no longer manager
As announced by the Dauphiné Libéré and since confirmed by the club, the former player of the XV of France Pascal Papé has been dismissed from his functions as manager of the team playing in the National. The ex 2e line passed through the Stade Français nevertheless retains his position as sporting director of the club.
