The 24th Minister of the Republic and Canton of Jura is called Stéphane Theurillat (Le Center). The candidate from Porrentruy was elected in the first round, Sunday, during the by-election to the Government for the succession of the PLR Jacques Gerber. The 44-year-old Bruntrutain, who obtained 50.4% of the votes, therefore allows his party to recover a second seat in the executive.
The left, for its part, did not succeed in realizing its ambition of securing a majority in the Government with Pauline Godat (Les Vert-es). The Bémont candidate obtained 38.1% of the votes. Environmentalists, PS and CS-POP left united in the campaign, but were not able to convince enough. “Pauline Godat’s score is a fairly good result compared to other elections which took place in the Jura, but it is true that there was a deficit in mobilization on the left, particularly on the socialist side,” analyzes political scientist and former National Councilor Jean-Claude Rennwald (PS/JU). The former elected official evokes various strategic reasons to explain the failure of the left and also evokes a poorly constructed alliance: “For me, alliances are not made a few weeks before the elections, whether they are municipal, cantonal or federal. . They must be done over the long term, with common themes and strategic objectives.”
Jean-Claude Rennwald also says he is in favor of the unity of the left. “Yes, but it must be based on a real political contract which is clear for the competing parties and for public opinion. It is only in this way that the left will be able to win in the future,” says the political scientist from Courrendlin.
