It’s done: at 36, Thierry Neuville becomes world rally champion for the first time in his career! The Belgian secured the title this Sunday after the retirement of Ott Tänak, while Toyota won the Manufacturers’ title thanks to the victory of Elfyn Evans in Japan.
Although he has only won two rallies in 2024, Thierry Neuville has shown exemplary consistency, scoring points every weekend by taking advantage of the new points system introduced this season. He finished the exercise with 242 points ahead of Elfyn Evans (210 points), who stole the honorary title of vice-world champion from Ott Tänak (200 points) at the end of the last round. The French finished 4th and 5th, with Sébastien Ogier (191 points) ahead of Adrien Fourmaux (162 points).
Among the Manufacturers, Toyota won its 8th WRC title in the final special of the last rally of the season, on its home soil. The Japanese firm, which was 15 points behind Hyundai at the start of Rally Japan, did everything perfectly at home with the victory of Elfyn Evans and the Power Stage won by Sébastien Ogier. In the end, Toyota (561 points) beats Hyundai (558 points) by three small units.
