French football clubs are not rolling in gold. Jean-Marc Mickeler, president of the DNCG (National Directorate of Management Control), spoke in The Team and drew a fairly pessimistic assessment of the economic situation of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs. “It (the overall economic situation) remains complicated. The operating loss is of the order of one billion euros, offset by very good sales with 830 million euros of capital gains on player sales. Which generates a net loss of around 250 million euros (150 in L1, 100 in L2)”announced the 54-year-old man.

More reasonable on the question of rights, the director of the DNCG rather points to a problem linked to the management of CVC. “This amount (96 million euros deficit linked to TV rights), although significant, should not plunge French football into an existential crisis if the economic model remains under control. The problem lies in the decision taken by the clubs when CVC arrived: they chose that the fund would not receive any dividend during the first two seasons, but that this amount would be carried over in full to the 2024-2025 to 2026 seasons. 2027. Thus, during this period, the clubs' rights will be reduced by the payment of this exceptional dividend.revealed Jean-Marc Mickeler. In short, the situation is not dramatic, but the clubs and their supporters are in a position to be somewhat concerned.
