It's Andrew Wiggins who leaves his mark on the first quarter. The Warriors winger scored 13 points including three winning baskets. Answers to those marked by the Pelicans, who manage to keep pace (30-34). They did even better than that since, active in defense, they managed to upset Steve Kerr's troops with a 13-0. They thus return to the locker room with a one-point lead (63-62).
The Warriors finally showed a little more seriousness in defense in the second half. Stephen Curry then Jonathan Kuminga carry the Californians in attack but nothing is done yet (84-87).
With more talent, Golden State manages to pull away but it was written that the Pelicans would be tough until the end. With some award-winning shots, they offer one last thrill to the room. On a bad throw-in, they steal the ball and Trey Murphy III has the ball at 3-point to go in front.
It was missed and we can read the disappointment on the faces and in the attitudes of Willie Green's players. During the free throws at the end of Draymond Green, which validated the success of Golden State (108-112), Stephen Curry was smiling. And for good reason: the Warriors remain at the top of the Western Conference.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
– Golden State did the minimum… This is not the best match of Steve Kerr's players. No doubt playing the Pelicans' C team is not the most exciting of challenges, but the Warriors lacked seriousness and concentration, both in attack and defense. They were hampered by the opposing defensive intentions (16 lost balls) and it was with their talent that they made the difference. However, they did not come close to being punished in the final seconds. The main thing is therefore in the victory, not in the form.
– … New Orleans son maximum. For Willie Green and his troops, it's the opposite. The team is decimated by injuries, managers are missing everywhere, but this team is fighting, giving its all, especially in defense. Brandon Ingram was well watched by the Warriors, but they were able to find solutions. It was messy and clumsy at times, but the effort was there. Unfortunately not rewarded with a success, because it is the fourth defeat in a row.
– The Warriors qualified for the quarter-final of the NBA Cup. With a third victory in three matches, and Denver's defeat at the same time against Dallas, the Warriors validated their ticket to the rest of the competition. They dominate group C and even if they lose their last match and the Mavericks win – the two teams would be at 3-1 – they will still take first place since they won the duel directly against the Texans.
