Formula 1 | Ricciardo ready if F1 stops: ‘I would have done what I could’

Daniel Ricciardo is still hoping to keep his place in Formula 1 next year, while Liam Lawson has been announced by Helmut Marko at RB F1 next year. The Australian driver assures that he is motivated to keep his seat and does not want to have any regrets about it.

“No, no. I don’t want to be flippant about it, because it’s obvious that I care a lot about the situation.” Ricciardo said. “Maybe I’m at a point where what’s meant to happen will happen. And I’m just going to put everything I can on the table from an effort and performance standpoint.”

“And if that’s enough to guarantee me a place, great. If it’s not, then fine. I’ll have done whatever I could. I think as far as the chairs are concerned musical, if I focus on that, I’m going to have problems I have to focus all my attention here. It’s that simple.

To celebrate his 250th Grand Prix in F1, Ricciardo is sporting a design reminiscent of his karting debut this weekend: “I’m obviously proud of it. I remember the first year, karting and everything. So personally, I did something cool for the helmet this weekend to bring back some of that nostalgia.”

The Australian has won eight times in his career and would have liked a few more: “It’s cool, I’m proud, but eight wins in 250 races, I would like a bigger percentage. It’s not too much yet.”

He is happy to know that his parents will be present at Silverstone, and during the summer, in Europe: “It’s good to spend time with family. Obviously, it’s more difficult for us drivers who are not based in Europe, because our families live far away and we don’t see them often. It’s so nice to spend a few weeks with them.”

“I feel like they’ve always been very good at staying out of the business side of the sport and letting me make my own decisions. But sometimes they can also give the best advice. So they’re there when I need them and it’s good to be able to count on them.”
