Why did Corentin Moutet withdraw after the draw?

This Friday, when the Wimbledon draw was made, Corentin Moutet had to withdraw due to a wrist injury. The Frenchman will therefore not be able to repeat his performance at Porte d’Auteuil.

The last Frenchman in contention at Roland-Garros, Corentin Moutet will not even see the first round of Wimbledon. While the draw for the British Grand Slam was made this Friday, the Frenchman, 55th player in the world, withdrew. The man who reached the round of 16 at Roland Garros for the first time in his career injured his wrist and was forced to withdraw.

Replaced by the lucky loser

And if he had been able to participate in the first round of Wimbledon, Corentin Moutet would have faced the Australian Alex De Minaur, 9th in the world and very good on grass. The Frenchman should therefore have pulled out all the stops in his first match in London. To replace him in the main draw, the place was allocated to the lucky loser, player eliminated in the last round of qualifying, James Duckworth.

Also involved in the doubles tournament, Corentin Moutet is, again, forced to give up his place. While he was to play alongside his compatriot Hugo Gaston, the French pair were replaced in the table by the Americans Christopher Eubanks and Evan King.

Bad memory of the 2023 Australian Open?

While no details have been given by Wimbledon regarding Corentin Moutet’s wrist injury, it is assumed that it could concern the right wrist. The Frenchman fractured it in the second round of the 2023 Australian Open and had to spend many months in rehabilitation.

To make his return to competition, the Frenchman had to give up his two-handed backhand. Unable to play in this way, he preferred to play only one-handed slice backhands while he recovered. After a surprising run at Roland-Garros, where he reached the round of 16 for the first time, Corentin Moutet is falling back into his old ways.

While Novak Djokovic, who had surgery on his right medial meniscus only three weeks ago, is very present in the main draw.
