Things could change in the coming days in the NHL as the Columbus Blue Jackets prepare a major transaction.
According to what was reported earlier this week by the journalist and insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnetthe Jackets are reportedly actively working on a way to manage the hot potato that has become the case of their young defender of the future David Jiricek.
Everything indicates that he will be traded very soon and the team’s GM, Don Waddellhimself confirmed Friedman’s information.
Recall that last week, the team management demanded Dante Fabbroplaced on waivers by the Nashville Predators, bringing the number of NHL-caliber defensemen in their roster to eight, i.e. Zach Werenski, Ivan Provorov, Jake Christiansen, Damon Severson, Jack Johnson, David Jiricek, Jordan Harris et Dante Fabbro.
Little used since the start of the season, the top first-round pick is obviously not part of the management’s plans which, let’s remember, is not the one who drafted him at the time.
- Aged 20, David Jiricek is a 6’4″/204lbs right-handed defenseman selected in the 1st round (6th overall) in the 2022 draft. Last season, he compiled a record of 1 goal and 9 assists for a total of 10 points in 43 games. He has only played 6 games so far this season.
Let’s now see with what training the young hopeful will now have the opportunity to continue his career.
In the meantime, team management announced today that they had demoted the young defender to the American League.
Kent Hughes should he test the waters to try to bring him to Montreal?
More details will follow.
