It’s a crisis in Philadelphia! By losing 11 of their first 13 games, the Sixers are at the bottom of the hole. And if we are to believe the latest information from Philly, Joel Embiid is increasingly frustrating some of his teammates, including Tyrese Maxey.
After the very dirty defeat in Miami last night, a crisis meeting took place in the Sixers locker room according to ESPN. Meeting requested by veteran Kyle Lowry, involving players and coaches.
During the latter, young star Tyrese Maxey – currently injured – would have spoken by turning to Joel Embiid. According to Shams Charania’s sources, Maxey criticized the 2023 MVP for his lack of punctuality during team meetings (such as training, video sessions etc., even if it was not specified as such) and the negative effect it can have on the whole group.
Other critical aspects were discussed during this crisis meeting (lack of intensity in training, tactical execution during matches, etc.), but it is really Embiid’s lack of rigor which seems to be at the heart of the frustration of several team members.
Always according to ESPNthe superstar pivot of the Sixers would have accepted Maxey’s message, the two players not being the type to use wooden language between them. It is rather the sign of a duo that works well, Joel respecting his young rear with whom he has formed a solid relationship both on and off the court. If the message had come from someone else, the reception of it might have been different.
Nevertheless, it is a new signal expressing the unease surrounding the Sixers and Embiid at the start of the season. Having been unable to prepare properly because of his knee, missing the first nine games of the 2024-25 campaign and receiving a suspension after shoving a journalist, Joel keeps the problems going. Perhaps worse still, he has been a shadow of himself since his return to the court.
Result: the Sixers are quite simply last in the East at the time of these lines…
