EA Sports, a specialist in sports video games, likes to make lists and give its opinion on who will break through in this or that discipline. They are used by players looking for young talents for their virtual team, for example in Career mode in FIFA 14.
In 2013, 40 players were highlighted with the advertising argument: “They will progress quickly and become top stars, worth much more than what you paid for them.”
More than a decade later, reading some of the names making up this list, I’m not sure that fans of FIFA 14 have gained many points.
The footballers selected had at least a potential of 85. But where did Zakaria Bakkali (90 potential, at the time at PSV), Adam Maher (88, PSV), Juan Fernando Quintero (86, Porto), Viktor Fischer ( 86, Ajax), Adrian Centurion (85, Genoa), Oliver Torres (85, Atlético Madrid), Mattia De Sciglio (85, AC Milan) or even Lucas Piazon (85, Chelsea)?
But there were also some big names who were indeed in this list: Marquinhos (89, PSG), Marco Verratti (88, PSG), Mateo Kovacic (87, Inter Milan), Angel Correa (San Lorenzo, 86) , Leon Goretzka (Schalke 04, 86), Leandro Paredes (Boca Juniors, 86), Lorenzo Insigne (85, Naples), and Luke Shaw (Southampton, 85).
