The return of Wojciech Szczesny to FC Barcelona to replace Ter Stegen. What future for the Polish goalkeeper?
Wojciech Szczesny, initially retired from the field since last summer, surprised everyone by coming out of retirement. His mission: to compensate for the absence of Marc-André ter Stegen, injured, in the FC Barcelona goals. Despite his status as a replacement behind Inaki Pena, the Polish goalkeeper has made himself indispensable for the Catalan club.
An impeccable attitude and future prospects
Szczesny’s arrival was marked by his dedication. His professionalism during training sessions is unanimous in the Blaugrana locker room. Always ready to meet the expectations of coach Hansi Flick, the Pole could well extend his adventure in Barcelona.
According to Mark, the club plans to offer him a one-year extension if his performances and attitude remain at this level. Currently under contract until the end of the season, Szczesny could therefore continue to play a key role in the Catalan squad.
Inaki Pena’s tricky question
In the absence of Marc-André ter Stegen, it is Inaki Pena who assumes starting responsibility. His contract, which runs until June 2026, however leaves uncertainty surrounding his future.
According to information from Mark, Barca will have to determine whether to offer Pena a new contract. This will be done based on his possible acceptance of a number two role. A delicate situation looms, because the return of ter Stegen will inevitably end his tenure.
With these decisions to come, FC Barcelona will have to juggle the experience of Szczesny, the promising talent of Pena and the expected return of ter Stegen. The objective is to maintain a clear hierarchy while ensuring competitiveness in all positions.
