The Beaulieu sports complex at the Lyautey high school in Casablanca was officially renamed the Nawal El Moutawakel Sports Center, during a ceremony held this Monday, June 24, in the presence of the French ambassador to Morocco, Christophe Lecourtier, and former ministers Mohamed Hassad, Nezha Skalli and Moncef Belkhayat.

This action is part of the Sport and Parity system, launched by the Terre de Jeux 2024 label under the aegis of the Paris Olympic Games, with the aim of promoting female representation in sport.

This complex, which includes a swimming pool, a gymnasium and a weight room, was inaugurated during the high school’s centenary in December 2023.

“This initiative aims to pay tribute to the illustrious Moroccan athlete, Nawal El Moutawakel, whose Olympic exploits inspired generations of sportswomen and men. This emblematic inauguration embodies not only the celebration of a figure who has marked the history of sport in Morocco and internationally, but also the inclusive dynamic which drives the Paris Olympics,” it is reported.

“This center is not only a place dedicated to sports practice, but also symbolizes a personal and inspiring story that links the athlete to this educational establishment. Indeed, it was at the Lycée Lyautey that Nawal El Moutawakel met, in 1979, Jean-François Coquand, then an Arabic teacher who, recognizing his strong potential, became his coach and guided him towards hurdle racing. we continue.
