“This Saturday, November 16 at 11 p.m. (Paris time, 5 p.m. Eastern time), while he was playing in the leading group of the western option, Louis Burton informed his team on land and the management of Vendée Globe race that he had just heard a very worrying noise: a “big crack”,” details the organization in a press release.
“After taking all the necessary precautions and carrying out a series of checks, he noted the presence of cracks on the deck of the boat [au niveau de l’écarteur du Gennaker]which may risk affecting the structural integrity of the boat,” it is specified in the press release, adding that the skipper is continuing his investigations and remains in the race for the moment.
The Gennaker is one of the sails of its IMOCA monohull.
Louis Burton was in 33rd on the evening of the seventh day of racing.e place at the last update of the ranking published at 11 p.m.
Holding the “West option”, the sailor is one of those operating furthest off the coast of Africa, notably alongside the favorites Thomas Ruyant (32eVulnerable), Charlie Dalin (25eMacif) and Yoann Richomme (34ePaprec Arkéa).
