Hungarian striker Barnabas Varga was evacuated on a stretcher this Sunday, in the middle of the match against Scotland during Euro-2024. After a duel with the Scottish goalkeeper, he suffered a violent fall and was taken out on a stretcher.

Images that send shivers down your spine. On a free kick in the 68th minute during this Scotland-Hungary (0-1), the 29-year-old striker violently fell on the back of his neck and was immediately placed in a side safety position by his teammates while he seemed unable to move.

Sheets were put up to prevent the other players and the public (as well as the cameras) from being able to see what was happening.

After a few seconds of hesitation, the emergency services finally intervened to evacuate him from the field to applause, after his partners, very touched by the scene, formed a circle around him by unrolling a brown sheet.

According to the Hungarian federation, the player, who was taken to hospital, is in a stable condition.

Images which inevitably recalled those of the last Euro when the Dane Christian Eriksen, victim of a cardiac arrest in the middle of a match against Finland, on June 12, 2021.
