Axel Zingle: “I’m clear in my head” – News

Axel Zingle plays big this Sunday. If his future seems assured today, winning the French Championship seems today the only possibility for Axel Zingle to compete in the next Tour de France. “I was in the potential names at the start of the year. Since then, it has evolved a little”he confides to DirectVelo while Cofidis has already announced six of the eight riders present. Even if Cédric Vasseur has since defended himself, his probable departure at the end of the season seems to be the main reason for this decision. “To date, I have not signed a contract with another team. On the other hand yes, there is a chance that I will no longer be on the team next year”recognizes the rider announced at Visma-Lease a Bike, by the Newspaper.

Absent from the Critérium du Dauphiné, the Tour de Suisse or the Tour de Belgique, Axel Zingle was far from the hustle and bustle of racing but he had time to see everything that was said about his future. “It doesn’t really affect me, I was in the bubble in the Jura. But I still had a network, I saw what was being said. My head is clear, and I am especially motivated for the end of the season, whatever happens”. Starting with the French Championship.

NEARLY THREE WEEKS IN PREMANON

The Alsatian stayed almost three weeks in Prémanon, a choice on his part. “In fact, there was the problem of scoring UCI points for the team so they added races to me in Belgium. So I found that it was a bit too much to stay on the initial calendar, with the Tour de Suisse. I preferred to rest then prepare for this summer”.

He is rather optimistic for the French Championship even if he lacks benchmarks. “It has always been my dream to be French Champion”. He was with the Espoirs in 2020, before finishing 3rd among the pros in 2022. “I prepared quite well, I put all the chances on my side by being serious. It went well at Prémanon. My coach, Sam (Bellenoue), doesn’t live far away, and he often came with me. It was nice. I think we worked pretty well, now we’ll have to see what it looks like on the bike”.

“YOU WILL HAVE TO BE SMART”

In 2021, he competed in the Polynormande while he was a trainee at Cofidis, his only experience to date on the circuit used this week by the riders entered in the French Championship. “I don’t have too many memories anymore, I didn’t finish the race. But on paper, it might work for me. We expect a wild race, you will have to be intelligent and know how to count your cartridges”.

Its result should therefore be decisive in hoping to start the Tour de France the following week. “I think I can have my place in the team, I hope to be there, plus I think I have ideal preparation for the Tour.” He has fewer racing days than last year and thus hopes to benefit from a certain freshness. “I have done two altitude courses since April, it is still a personal investment. I would like to see what it can do on a Grand Tour”. History of undoubtedly leaving Cofidis on a good note.
