St-Michel-Mavic-Auber 93 arrived in Normandy with great ambitions. Both for Men and Women, the Ile-de-France team won the French Championship in Saint-Martin-de-Landelles (Manche). But there was no Top 10 this Saturday during the first act, the women’s race. The two best cards, Marion Bunel and Victorie Guilman, failed to reach the Top 10 (see ranking). But there was no real disappointment from the Ile-de-France team. “It’s like that, there are bad days and I didn’t have good legs today”recognizes Victorie Guilman from DirectVelo.

For her part, Marion Bunel tried to provoke destiny a little over 50 kilometers from the finish. “I attacked hard, I wanted to start the race and for the best to come with me and for the girls to dare a little more”. But at first, she found herself alone at the front. “I knew it wasn’t the best idea”. So she tried to manage her effort as best as possible during these ten kilometers alone. “A few girls came back but it wasn’t enough racing.”

VICTORIE GUILMAN ON THE GROUND

On the penultimate lap, Victorie Guilman wanted to try her luck but she suffered a fall just as she was about to attack. “I tried to attack on the right but Léa Curinier squeezed me. These are things that happen”. Nothing to panic her about. “I saw that my bike was not in good condition so I changed. I also had a damaged shoe, I hesitated to change it but there was one lap left, it was quite hot and it did it anyway”. She was awaited by Alison Avoine. “It really warms my heart to have a team like that”. For her, the disappointment is rather not having been able to reward her teammates. “I am still obviously disappointed with their work. But I have no regrets”.

Marion Bunel, who was playing her first French Championship among the Elites, had more difficulty putting things into perspective upon arrival. “It’s very hard to become French Champion but I’m still frustrated”. She would have imagined a bigger fight. “We arrived in a big pack for 4th place, which shows that the race was not as hard as it could have been”she regrets. “The race was a bit weird”, adds Victorie Guilman. But the Charentaise wants to remember something else. “I think that collectively, we had a good Championship and Marion (Bunel) did a good number up front”. Once the French Championship is over, St-Michel-Mavic-Auber 93 can start thinking about the Tour de France.
