Switzerland leads 1-0 in the Billie Jean King Cup play-off against Serbia in Bienne. Belinda Bencic (WTA 913) brought the first point to the Swiss by beating Lola Radivojevic (181) in two sets (6-2 6-2).
Two years and two days after bringing a world champion title to Switzerland, Belinda Bencic celebrated her return to the Swiss jersey with a success that brooks no discussion. She shouldn’t have to wait long before regaining her place among the best players on the circuit.
Bencic only needed a few games to adjust her serve, while she continued to score points on her 19-year-old opponent’s faceoff. She also made no direct errors during a first set easily won 6-2. In the 2nd round, the 27-year-old Saint-Galloise managed 3 additional breaks to win in 1h19′ of play.
Golubic’s turn
The 2nd singles scheduled for the day will pit Viktorija Golubic (108) against Mia Ristic (394). In the event of success in this jump-off (the first team with 3 points wins), Switzerland would obtain the right to compete in the qualifications for the final phase of the next edition, in the spring.
