Here we go again for the National League! After an international break and a first leg of the round of 16 of the CHL Playoffs, Genève-Servette returns to the championship with a big challenge ahead of it: moving up the rankings.
The Eagles have experienced difficulties at the start of the season. Twelfth in the ranking, the team cannot be satisfied with this position, even if several elements help to explain it. For example, the Garnets played between one and three games fewer than the rest of the League, played their first eight games away, and had to deal with a long list of injured players. For this resumption after the break, the GSHC can count on the arrival of Oula Palve for a month and the return of Marc-Antoine Pouliot. Robert Mayer, Luca Hischier and Mike Völlmin are still absent, even if their return is getting closer. Jan Cadieux’s men remain above all on a magnificent victory at the Vaudoise arena in the round of 16 of the CHL Playoffs against Lausanne. They played really well, and it’s this type of performance that we will need to repeat to move up the rankings.
Kloten, at the gates of the Top 6
Saturday, Kloten travels to Les Vernets. Zurich is off to a good start to the season and is in 7th place in the standings, just one point behind Zug, 6th, despite three defeats in the last five matches. The Flyers can count on a group of efficient foreigners (Aaltonen, 18 points; Niku, 13 points; Ojamäki, 11 points; Audette, 10 points) and on a reassuring goaltender (Waeber, 91.85% saves). If the first confrontation ended in a solid 5-2 Geneva victory in Kloten, the Eagles will have to avoid resting on their achievements to seek a new victory in front of their home crowd. A victory which could lead to others and thus allow the Genevans to finally move up the rankings.
Operation Movember
Genève-Servette wishes to raise awareness of so-called “male” diseases during the month of Movember. The global operation, symbolized by the mustache, highlights men’s health. Between typically male diseases (such as prostate and testicular cancers) and mental health issues, taboos remain numerous, and it is important to open the debate and provide information. The HUG ProstaTeam association will be present at the ice rink to raise public awareness. In addition, the barber DÜRRENMATT comes to Les Vernets to trim beautiful mustaches for all the volunteers before and during the match. Don’t hesitate to stop by the two stands to get information and support the cause!
This match between Genève-Servette and Kloten will be played at the Vernets ice rink from 7:45 p.m. this Saturday. The meeting can be followed live and in full on MySports and Radio Lac (91.8). Find digital Garnet HERE so you don’t miss any other information!
