In the F1 paddock, McLaren’s hospitality, the space where the team rests when the cars are not running, caught fire. The fire broke out this Saturday, June 22, late in the morning. The situation was brought under control a few hours later, early in the afternoon. The neighboring Alpine space was also evacuated.

Pilots evacuated

This incident did not prevent McLaren from participating in the final free practice session, which kicked off at 12:30 p.m., while firefighters were still working in the orange team’s area.

“The team was safely evacuated while local firefighters dealt with the problem”, McLaren communicated on its social networks. Pilots Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and boss Zak Brown were among those evacuated at the time of the disaster.

According to the German press, Bild , present at McLaren at the time of the incident, three people were injured in this fire, the origin of which is believed to be an electrical fault. Two people were treated by the F1 medical center only, while the last victim went to a clinic near the circuit for smoke inhalation.
