In recent months, RSC Anderlecht have been linked with Christian Eriksen in some media speculation. However, Mauves fans can already be sure: the Danish midfielder will not join Lotto Park, neither in January nor next summer. Here’s why.
Eriksen never came close to Anderlecht
This summer, Eriksen’s name circulated regularly in the media in connection with Anderlecht. A strange situation, because according to Jesper Fredberg, former CEO Sports of the club, no concrete contact took place with the player. His agent confirmed there were informal discussions, but it never progressed beyond that stage.
Fredberg had planned to remain on alert if an opportunity similar to that of Kasper Schmeichel presented itself. The latter is one of Fredberg’s successes during his three transfer windows at Anderlecht. However, the manager has often been criticized, particularly due to internal tensions between Wouter Vandenhaute and the club’s Danish contingent.
The departure of key figures like Brian Riemer, Mikkel Hemmersam and Jesper Fredberg in a short period of time does not seem to be a coincidence. With these changes, any possible arrival of Eriksen becomes purely hypothetical.
Renard considers this transfer unnecessary
Olivier Renard, new sporting boss of the club, brushed aside these rumors. “At the time at Standard, I recruited experienced players like Pocognoli or Jean-François Gillet to manage the team. Anderlecht already has this type of profile in its locker room,” he declared recently.
Furthermore, with talents like Mario Stroeykens, Tristan Degreef, Yari Verschaeren and the expected return of Thorgan Hazard, Anderlecht does not need an additional creative environment this winter.
A simple rumor with no future
In summary, the connection between Eriksen and Anderlecht has been nothing more than brief speculation with no real basis. The club does not plan to pursue this avenue, and the player has no reason to join the Mauves. A “relationship” that will never see the light of day.
