The Visma-Lease a Bike team has revealed its list for the next Tour de France and Jonas Vingegaard, double title holder, is there, as is Wout Van Aert.

Jonas Vingegaard will defend his titles! Winner of the last two Tours de France, the Danish rider will indeed be present at the start of the Grande Boucle on June 29 in Florence. Victim of a fractured clavicle and several ribs, a pulmonary contusion and a pneumothorax on April 4 following a fall during the Tour of the Basque Country (which also brought down Remco Evenepoel), Jonas Vingegaard has not raced competitively since, but was deemed suitable by the managers of Visma-Lease a Bike to start the Grande Boucle.

“I am very proud of Jonas and the coaching staff. He is coming back from a serious injury. In recent weeks he has shown that he is a champion, both mentally and physically. Of course, we don’t know yet how far he can go. We are cautious because he hasn’t been able to race and his preparation hasn’t been ideal, to say the least. But he will be there, healthy and motivated,” said the team’s sporting director Merijn Zeeman. Jonas Vingegaard has just completed an altitude training course in Tignes, and the signals seem green, even if it is difficult to know if he will be able to last three weeks at a high level and get on the final podium in Nice.

Kuss, Laporte and Jorgenson will be there too

Another highly anticipated rider in this team, Wout Van Aert. The Belgian also suffered a big fall this year, on March 27 on A Travers la Flanders, which left him with a fracture of his collarbone, sternum and several ribs, and a pulmonary contusion. He resumed competition on May 23 in the Tour of Norway before also taking part in the Tignes course, where he visibly gave assurances of success. “Like Jonas, Wout had to face considerable physical and mental shock. But once again, Wout showed that he is a rock-solid champion. His class as an athlete and his leadership qualities bring added value to our team. We are happy to have Jonas and Wout at the start, with an excellent team,” Zeeman said of him.

The two emblematic riders will be accompanied by an impressive team, with Tiesj Benoot (winner of the Strade Bianche 2018), Matteo Jorgenson (winner of Paris-Nice and A Travers la Flandre this year), the last winner of the Vuelta Sepp Kuss, the European champion Christophe Laporte, Wilco Kelderman (3rd in the 2020 Giro) and Jan Tratnik (winner of the Circuit Het Nieuwsblad). Enough to prevent the armada of UAE Emirates (Pogacar, A.Yates, Almeida), the Bora-Hansgrohe of Primoz Roglic and the Soudal-Quick Step of Remco Evenepoel from shining? Response in a month…
