Stefan Küng handily won the Swiss time trial champion title on Thursday in Aire-la-Ville (GE). He relegated his rival and title holder Stefan Bissegger by more than a minute.

KEYSTONE

The 30-year-old from Thurgau, five times titled between 2017 and 2021, completed the 30.8 km loop in 36’09, traveling at an average of 51.12 km/h. Bissegger needed 1’07” more to complete this course passing the Russin hill (one kilometer at 5.8% average).

On the third step of the podium, we find the young Jan Christen (19 years old), who finished his effort 1’11” behind Küng. Jurassien Yannis Voisard (25 years old) lost 1’38” to the winner, finishing just off the podium.

Hartmann as easy

In the absence of European champion Marlen Reusser, who was ill, Elena Hartmann won the women’s race with almost 3’30” ahead of Melanie Maurer and Noemi Rüegg. The 33-year-old from Zoug celebrated her third consecutive Swiss champion title. Local Elise Chabbey missed the podium by one minute by placing seventh.

The road titles will be awarded on Saturday (ladies) and Sunday (men) in Aire-la-Ville.
