Noah Fadiga, victim of a heart attack during La Gantoise’s last match, will have to have a defibrillator fitted to ensure his safety on the pitch. This medical solution will allow the young defender to continue his career without compromise, despite the challenges posed by myocarditis.
Last Sunday, Noah Fadiga, defender of La Gantoise, suffered discomfort during the match against Standard de Liège. Around 4:30 p.m., following contact with player Alexandro Calut, Fadiga collapsed, triggering concern among supporters and his coach, Wouter Vrancken. Although quickly recovered and able to leave the field under his own power, the player subsequently underwent extensive medical examinations.
The results revealed myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle linked to a previous viral infection. This inflammation led to the development of scar tissue on the heart muscle, causing an arrhythmia during the match. In response, La Gantoise announced that Fadiga, aged 24, will have a defibrillator fitted to prevent any future risks. The club also reassured: this intervention does not jeopardize the continuation of his career.
After leaving Stade Brestois for La Gantoise in 2023 due to a first heart problem, Fadiga had a good start to the season in Belgium with 23 matches played and 4 goals scored. This new medical challenge marks a turning point for the native of Bruges, who will be closely followed by cardiologist Pedro Brugada. Thanks to this medical device, Fadiga will be able to continue to play in the field in complete safety.
