The Montreal Canadiens have a record of 5-9-2 in 16 games, falling well short of Kent Hughes’ hopes before the start of this schedule. Remember that the initial objective of Jeff Gorton, Kent Hughes, Martin St-Louis and the players was to fight for a place in the playoffs. This desire was, obviously, before seeing Patrik Laine fall in combat…
That said, after a meeting with his circuit counterparts, during a meeting of general managers, Hughes showed himself disappointed by this catastrophic start to the campaign. But, at the same time, the boss of the blue-white-red is happy to have learned about some of his soldiers. Here is what Hughes said about his group of players:
“Of course we would like to have had a better start than what we had. But with the good times and the bad times, we learn things about our players! At the stage we are currently at, the most we can learn about our players will help us for the future and the decisions we will have to make!”reports the TVA Sports website.
Hughes certainly learned that Cayden Primeau was not an NHL goaltender. That Lane Hutson should be the quarterback on the first rushing offense! That Jake Evans is an excellent third pivot (and not a second)! That Kirby Dach was struggling to get back on track! That Christian Dvorak was Christian Dvorak! That Brendan Gallagher still had some in the gas tank! Etc.
In short, the DG takes notes with a view to the future of his organization, he who always conveys the same words: patience is required and he will not make any sudden movement to harm the future of his organization. This dialogue also shows that Hughes has not lost patience with his head coach, who is an integral part of the process in which the blue-white-red is immersed.
