Murat Yakin’s list: Simon Sohm returns to the Swiss team

After a long wait of four years, Simon Sohm returns to the Swiss team! The Parma midfielder intends to make a name for himself in a sector where competition is very fierce.

Behind Granit Xhaka and Remo Freuler, but also Vincent Sierro and Ardon Jashari, Simon Sohm will have difficulty finding happiness during this gathering. “I’m here to show off. To also learn from a player as strong as Granit Xhaka. His leadership inspires me,” underlines the Parma player who returned to the Calcio elite this year after three years of purgatory in Serie B.

Scorer on October 30 in Turin during the 2-2 victory at Juventus, Simon Sohn is an indisputable starter at the club. “I deserve what’s happening to me,” he admits. A club with a glorious past

In Parma, where he of course appreciates the cuisine and where he can walk peacefully without being oppressed by the fans as one can be in Naples, Simon Sohm knows that he plays in a club with a glorious past. Victorious in the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1993 and the UEFA Cup in 1995 and 1999, AS Parma was a major player in Europe thanks in particular to the support of Parmalat, the dairy products giant of the time. “The trophies are present at the stadium. We measure the weight of this past,” underlines Simon Sohm.

Now linked with AS Parma until June 30, 2027, Simon Sohm really intends to stay in Emilia-Romagna for the long term, “even if you are never sure of anything in football”. “We really hope to establish ourselves again in Serie A. It’s a wonderful championship. Going to challenge Inter or Milan at San Siro must be extraordinary.” He will rediscover the Milanese enclosure on December 6 during a duel against the Nerazzurri.

But immediately, he hopes to honor his second selection at this November gathering. On October 7, 2020, he took over from Djibril Sow in the 64th minute during a friendly match lost 2-1 to Croatia in St. Gall.
