After several resignations behind the scenes and the announcement on Tuesday of a new organization, Friborg Olympic will return to the joys of the field with the reception of Antwerp this Wednesday in the FIBA Europe Cup.
If a new European evening is planned at the Saint-Léonard hall, it is thanks in particular to Pascal Joye. The one who has just started his second season as president of the most successful club in the country is a regular at the house, to say the least.
Since 1979
Pascal Joye arrived at the club in 1979 as a player in the junior movement. He then held numerous positions: cameraman, statistician, member of the marketing commission, fan manager, team manager, committee member and finally president. In total, he played 45 seasons! According to him, playing on the European stage is important for the future of the club and Swiss basketball:
As a reminder, Pascal Joye succeeded Philippe de Gottrau as president in September 2023.
Decisive match
One day from the end of this first round, Friborg Olympic (three victories and two defeats) occupies second place in its group in the FIBA Europe Cup. If the French from Cholet are guaranteed to finish in first place, everything will be decided between Olympic and Antwerp who will face each other this Wednesday from 7 p.m.
As a reminder, the first places in each group as well as the six best second places will qualify for the rest of the competition. In the event of a victory, Olympic will be practically assured of qualification while in the event of a defeat, it will certainly be eliminated. In any case, we will have to wait for the results of the other nine groups to know the fate of Natan Jurkovitz’s teammates.
FIBA Europe Cup Group C standings
For this part, Olympic hopes that the public will respond. After welcoming more than 2,100 spectators on Saturday against Massagno in the championship, the Saint-Léonard hall could once again be well stocked. The club has made an effort by offering reduced price entries: 15.- for an adult (instead of 28.-), free entry for under 16s and season ticket holders as well as 10.- with a drink for one. student.
The game between Friborg Olympic and Antwerp will start at 7 p.m.: it will be followed live on Radio Friborg and on Frapp from 6:45 p.m.
