The day after a defeat punctuated by other defensive failures among the Montreal Canadiens, eyes are turned on Sunday to Dante Fabbro, placed on waivers the day before by the Nashville Predators.
If social networks are to be trusted, many Montreal fans are asking Kent Hughes to claim it by 2 p.m. In the order of waiver priority, only the San Jose Sharks can get their hands on Fabbro before the Canadiens.
However, according to what the very renowned Elliotte Friedman reported on Saturday evening, Fabbro should not be claimed because of his salary of $2.5 million, which is difficult for teams to absorb at this stage of the regular season.
The Predators are open to trading him, however. The plan is to send Fabbro to the American League affiliate in Milwaukee, where he is likely to get more playing time and where interested teams can follow him more closely.
Fabbro is by far the Predators’ least used defenseman this season with an average playing time of just 13 minutes and six seconds.
The 26-year-old right-hander, represented by JP Barry of Pat Brisson’s CAA Hockey agency, was selected in the first round, 17e overall, by the Predators in 2016.
