Bruno Retailleau reports the tweet of an LFI deputy to justice

The Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, announced on Saturday November 9 on the X platform that he had decided to report to the courts a message posted on the social network by the deputy La insoumise (LFI) Marie Mesmeur in connection with the serious incidents which took place during the week in the Netherlands, on the sidelines of the match between Ajax Amsterdam and the Israeli club Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

Reacting to the tweet posted by the national secretary of the Communist Party, Fabien Roussel, who condemned a “growing and unbearable hatred” towards the Jews after violence against supporters of the Israeli club, the elected representative of Ille-et-Vilaine wrote: “ These people were not lynched because they were Jewish, but because they were racist and supported genocide. »

“I have decided to report to the Prosecutor the comments of Deputy Marie Mesmeur, under article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, for apologizing for a crime”wrote Bruno Retailleau, Saturday evening.

Sixty-three arrests

Maccabi Tel-Aviv supporters were violently attacked by groups of individuals in the streets of Amsterdam, during the night from Thursday to Friday after the Europa League match, in a context marked by the rise of acts anti-Semites and anti-Israelis around the world since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in October 2023.

The mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, spoke at a press conference of groups of individuals targeting supporters of the Israeli club, hitting and kicking them. “It’s an explosion of anti-Semitism that I hope to never see again”said M.me Halsema, who said she ” shame “ of this violence.

Police reported five people briefly hospitalized and 63 arrests, and Israel organized emergency flights to repatriate its citizens. Four people, including two minors, remained in detention on Saturday to be presented to a judge at the start of the week, the prosecution said.

The Dutch government and many foreign leaders have condemned the attacks.

All demonstrations banned for three days since Friday

On Wednesday evening, the day before the match, incidents took place in certain neighborhoods, with Maccabi supporters tearing down a Palestinian flag from a facade in the city center and burning another flag in Dam Square. They also uttered anti-Palestinian slogans.
