The Rouge et Or is back on the throne of Quebec university football. Laval University scored a 22-17 victory against the Université Montréal Carabins in the Dunsmore Cup final.
In front of a record crowd for a Quebec final of 17,990 spectators at the PEPS at Laval University on Saturday afternoon, the Rouge et Or prevailed in an exciting match until the end, as was to be expected with its two great rivals.
Trailing by five points with just under five minutes on the clock, Carabins quarterback Jonathan Sénécal fumbled the ball deep in his territory after being hit in the backfield.
Two plays later, fullback William Tremblay scored the decisive three-yard touchdown to give the Rouge et Or a 22-10 lead at the end of the game.
The Carabins, however, responded without delay. After two quick first plays, Sénécal found Simon Riopel on 39 yards to close the gap with 2:11 on the clock.
Laval managed two first plays to use up maximum time on the clock and a punt placed the Carabins deep in enemy territory with 10 seconds on the clock. Jonathan Sénécal made two desperate attempts, but it was too late for the Carabins.
After losing in the Quebec final against the Carabins in 2023, the Rouge et Or got their hands on the 17th title in their history.
