Euro 2024: Germany dominates Scotland 5-1

Germany is off to a good start in Euro 2024. In Munich (group A), it beat Scotland 5-1. The goals were scored by Wirtz (10th), Musiala (19th), Havertz (45th/pen), Füllkrug (68th) and Can (93rd).

The Germans, very dynamic and much better technically, did not even need to pull out all the stops to win, as the opposition was of an almost dismaying level. The Scots, despite a very defensive system, quickly broke down and conceded two goals at the start of the match.

The first came from a cross from Kroos for Kimmich, who served Wirtz for the opener. On the second, Gündogan was at the origin with a breakthrough in the axis followed by a shift for Havertz, who then cut back for Musiala. The two young jewels of Julian Nagelsmann thus ideally launched their tournament.

In the second half, Füllkrug added to the score (68th) shortly after coming into play, on a serve from the excellent Musiala. Julian Nagelsmann was able to carry out a squad review in the offensive sector which is very well equipped with his selection. Even veteran Thomas Müller (34) took the field, taking over from Musiala whose exit was accompanied by a long ovation.

Clear observation

Mission accomplished for the Mannschaft. But we still wait to gauge her against a tougher opponent. Because after this opening match, the observation is clear: as expected, Scotland, crumbly behind and harmless up front, is indeed the weakest team in this group A. And the goal of honor, fallen in the 87th, results from an autogoal from Rüdiger…

Switzerland will therefore have to pocket all three points against the Bravehearts on Wednesday evening in Cologne. As a BBC Scotland journalist humorously wrote, his country should instead focus on curling…
