This summer, Julien De Sart left La Gantoise for the Qatari championship. Is a return to the Pro League possible?
Julien De Sart did not make an easy decision by choosing to sign for Al Rayyan “But ultimately, Ghent was going to receive 7 million, all that for a 29-year-old player who arrived for free” he explains in Het Nieuwsblad.
Ultimately, it was, to hear him, an incoming transfer from the Buffalos that tipped the scales in his choice: “When Mathias Delorge arrived, there was a midfielder to replace me and I thought: ‘ Okay, now I can do it.”
Last January, a Bundesliga team came forward, Club Brugge also made a proposal. Julien De Sart will be 30 in December. He signed a contract until 2027 in Qatar. Will he stay there until the end?
Happy in Stars League
Qatari clubs sometimes agree to loan players to European clubs to convince foreigners to sign with them. De Sart was thus questioned about the possibility of a loan in the Pro League, even if it means signing with the sworn enemy of La Gantoise or the Standardhis former Belgian clubs.
“I’m a sensitive person. For a Liégeois like me, signing for Anderlecht would be completely crazy. And as a former Ghent player, it’s also complicated to sign for Bruges. Football is unpredictable, but that will normally never happen, that’s 99.9% sure. The idea is to finish my career in Qatar” he concludes.
