Having recovered from a serious knee injury, Anthony Jelonch will be in Toulouse’s extended squad for the reception of La Rochelle on Sunday at the end of the 2nd day of the Top 14, Toulouse defence coach Laurent Thuéry said on Friday.

“Antho continues his recovery. You will see it quickly. He will be in the group of 30 players for La Rochelle”Thuéry said at a press conference.

As the match sheet can only contain 23 names, the international third row could however wait another week and the trip to Montpellier to make his return to the field.

“We must not be in too much of a hurry. We are not talking about a week or a fortnight.”

“You shouldn’t be in too much of a hurry”recalled his coach. “We all know his past. We’re not a week or two away from it and when he’s ready, he’ll pull it out of the hat. The seasons are very long so we have time.”.

Jelonch ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in January during Toulouse’s 31-19 Champions Cup win over Bath, almost a year after suffering the same injury to his left knee.

“In my head, I feel like I’m ready”he said at the beginning of September, estimating that he would be able to play again within a period of “two to three weeks”. “There, I have no pressure to resume”he had tempered, while he had engaged in a time trial after his first injury in order to be ready in time to compete in the 2023 World Cup.
