Tonight, it’s the big night. This Friday June 14, Euro 2024 football begins, which will be held in Germany until July 14. For the inaugural match, Germany will host Scotland in the Munich Football Arena (usually called the Allianz Arena) in 21 hours. Before the match, the traditional opening ceremony will launch the competition with great fanfare.

At what time and on what channel?

The opening ceremony of Euro 2024 will be broadcast from 8:40 p.m. live from the Munich Football Arena, 20 minutes before the kick-off match. It will be broadcast on TF1 and beIN Sports 1. On the front page, viewers will find the duo composed of journalist Grégoire Margotton and Bixente Lizarazu on the comments. The match will be followed by the “Euro Mag” presented by Denis Brogniart.

A tribute to German football legend Franz Beckenbauer

The ceremony will be marked by a tribute to Franz Beckenbauer, hero of West Germany, European champion in 1972 and world champion in 1974, who died on January 8 at the age of 78. His widow Heidi Beckenbauer will set foot on the Arena lawn accompanied by former Nationalelf captains Bernard Dietz and Jürgen Klinsmann, crowned European champions in 1980 and 1996. The trio’s mission will be to bring the Henri Delaunay Cup back to the pitch, which will be raised during the final in Berlin by the winner.

Who will come and sing?

The opening ceremony also promises a great musical, dancing and pyrotechnic show in Munich, with no less than 250 extras and dancers on the lawn. This will also be an opportunity to discover the official tournament anthem “Fire”. A song which is the result of a collaboration between the Italian electro trio Meduza, the American pop-rock group OneRepublic, and the German singer Leony. For the moment, UEFA is keeping it a mystery, and is not specifying whether the three artists will be present to perform the song together live.

When will we see the French team?

Led by Kylian Mbappé, the Blues hope to be able to take their revenge on the 2020 tournament (which took place in 2021 in 11 major cities in Europe), eliminated by surprise against Switzerland in the round of 16. Didier Deschamps’ selection will take the stage on Monday June 17 in Munich against Austria. A meeting broadcast unencrypted and live on TF1, as well as on BeIn Sports 1.
