Cycling. Tour de Suisse – Almeida the 6th stage, Adam Yates 2nd, Lenny Martinez is better

Extremely short (42.5 km), the 6th stage of the Tour of Switzerland smiled at Joao Almeida ! Author of a very big last kilometer, the Portuguese won at the top of Blatten in front of his teammate Adam Yates, which he took over and then left behind in the finale. Playing at a higher level again, the team UAE Team Emirates therefore offered himself a second double in two days! Having gained 8 seconds in the yellow jersey (4″ on the line and 4″ bonus), the Portuguese is getting closer to the Briton in the general classification, the two men being separated by 27 seconds before the last weekend.

Thursday, it was Adam Yates who won the 5th stage

Egan Bernal firmly established on the podium, Lenny Martinez climbs back up the slope

The day after his big downturn, Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek) recovered by finishing third, 9″ behind the winner of the day and 6″ ahead Egan Bernal (INEOS Grenadiers), which consolidates its third place in the general classification. Skjelmose is fourth (nearly 1 minute behind Bernal) And Enric Mas (Movistar Team), a little behind this Friday (7th at 47″), completes the provisional top 5. Much better than during the two previous days, Lenny Martinez (Groupama-FDJ) crossed the finish line in fifth position (+35″), which allows it to climb four places overall (14th). The race summary

Obviously, with only 42.5 kilometers to go, this 6th stage of the Tour of Switzerland leaves loudly, very loudly. Quickly, the Dane Anders Foldager (Team Jayco AlUla), the Swiss Stefan Bissegger (EF Education-EasyPost) and Dutch Frank van den Broek (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL) are well ahead of the peloton. THE UAE Team Emirates however, do not intend to leave too much room for the leading trio and the teammates in the yellow jersey Adam Yates quickly get to work. At the foot of the final climb of Blatten (5.8 km at 8.8%), Folder, Bissegger And Van den Broek are ahead of the pack by 1 minute.

While the team INEOS Grenadiers takes over – very provisionally – from UAE Team Emirates in the peloton, Anders Foldager is the first to let go within the breakaway, then it’s Stefan Bisseger who gets up after having taken the lead in the two bonus sprints located in the first part of the climb. Behind Frank van den Broekwhich only has a 20″ margin 4 kilometers from the goal, Jan Christen And Isaac Del Toro (UAE Team Emirates) squeeze out the peloton, then Adam Yates attack !

The Adam Yates – Joao Almeida duo still on top

No one can take the wheel of the leader of the Tour of Switzerland, which swallows the last survivor of the escape. Behind the Briton, we find a trio made up of Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek), Egan Bernal (INEOS Grenadiers) and Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates). It is the first city which sets the rhythm in this trio, the gap with Yatesvery weak, stabilizing. Skjelmose plateauing a little, Bernal accelerates and tries to come back alone on the lead man. The Colombian does not succeed… unlike Almeidawho runs into his teammate after having left behind Bernal And Skjelmose. Finishing this stage very strongly, the Portuguese even managed to make Adam Yates in the last 300 meters. Victory therefore goes to Almeidawho is getting closer to his teammate in the general classification. More information to follow…
