Tanner Jeannot will have to keep his phone open on Friday, as all indications are that he will receive a call from the Department of Player Safety.
The Los Angeles Kings player was ejected from Thursday night’s game against the Vancouver Canucks after a hit to the head against Brock Boeser.
The Canucks forward was in the neutral zone when he made a pass. While he was no longer in possession of the puck, Boeser was hit in his blind spot by Jeannot and the Canucks player fell to the ice after contact with his head.
It took Boeser a few moments before leaving with the help of the trainer. The play occurred midway through the first period. The organization announced in the middle period that the attacker would not return to the game during this match. So far this season, Boeser has 11 points in as many games.
Officials were quick to announce that Jeannot was expelled from this clash. The 27-year-old striker already had 21 penalty minutes on his clock before the match.
Subsequently, Quinn Hughes scored a goal and added an assist, guiding the Canucks to a 4-2 victory over the Kings.
It was a third consecutive success for Vancouver (7-2-3), which has bounced back well since its crushing shutout defeat (6-0) last week against the New Jersey Devils.
Connor Garland and Jake DeBrusk also fooled Darcy Kuemper. JT Miller ended the suspense by scoring in an abandoned cage with 1:14 to play.
Quinton Byfield opened the scoring in the second minute of play at the expense of Kevin Lankinen, but Rick Tocchet’s men responded with the next three goals.
Vladislav Gavrikov put some spice back into the contest by bringing LA within a single goal at 13:57 of the final period. The visitors, however, clung to their lead.
Garland’s equalizing goal was scored during the major penalty imposed on Jeannot.
