It will not be the Olympic medal set with a piece of the Eiffel Tower, designed by the jeweler Chaumet and reserved for champions. But it will have the flavor for around 40,000 runners – most of them amateurs -, who will finish the Marathon for All (in 42.195 or 10 km version), in the evening or night of August 10, 2024. This is a few hours from the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games.

This official medal, which West France reveals, weighs 150 grams and measures 85 mm high by 77 wide. The front differs depending on the distance. On that of the main event, the marathon, the numbers 2 and 4 (common to the year and the distance) are intertwined in a labyrinth. For the 10 km, the numbers 24 and 10 are highlighted. The words “finisher” appear at the bottom along with the distance traveled.

A ribbon… orange

On the back is engraved the date but also the Marathon pour tous logo with the Olympic rings as well as that of the Orange group. It is in fact the telecoms operator, partner of Paris 2024 and in particular of this event, which presents these awards. They will be accompanied by an orange ribbon… obviously.

Like most of these types of metal sports awards, they are made in Asia “for deadline constraints”, justifies Orange, but “from entirely recycled materialsmainly recycled metals.

110 nationalities

In two months, 20,024 runners will take the start of the 42.195 km (in a demanding round trip with 438 meters of elevation gain between Paris and Versailles) at 9 p.m.; and 20,024 will set off for 10 km in the capital at 11:30 p.m. As many women as men, from 110 different nationalities. Average age: 38 years old. For both distances, the start will be given from the Place de l’Hôtel-de-ville and the finish judged on the Esplanade des Invalides.

This Marathon for all, for which more than 400,000 people tried to obtain a free bib, is a first in the history of the Olympic Games: amateurs will run on the same course as the champions between the men’s events – on Saturday morning – and feminine – on Sunday morning.

Throughout the route, the emphasis will be placed on sound and lights, promise the organizers. In addition to illuminated buildings, runners will repeatedly pass through “light tunnels”. “The idea being to give them strength and keep them in the energy of the Games,” we explain. Cheering areas will also be placed at various locations along the course.
